As a remake or a tribute, it's useless, like a simplified version of Clouseau for a new generation. What puts me most at peace is that the main character is essentially a completely different hero, the humor is aimed in a completely different direction, even though the framework of the story with the diamond and the crime remains the same. And in Steve Martin's portrayal, a scene like that "hamburger" is literally legendary. ()
I like characters who bring embarrassment upon themselves and are themselves embarrassing, but this was a bit over the top. Awkward Bridget Jones? Yeah! (Laughs) Awkward Clouseau? No! After a while, I just got tired of his clumsiness and puns, but I finished it. I laughed a few times, but it’s disappointing! ()
Steve Martin attempted to step into the shoes of a legend and unfortunately, he probably didn't realize they were way too big for him. Instead of attempting his own interpretation of Clouseau, he tried it with the same elements as Peter Sellers. Yes, here and there it's funny, but turning the detective into a real genius at the end just didn't quite fit. Not to mention that it's really only funny in a few moments. ()
