The first film version of Henry James' "The Aspern Papers" is a solid film of its decade - the mystery, suspense, thick atmosphere - it takes the strongest emotions from the novel. Actually, it is a pleasure to compare it with the Slovak production of "Letters to Juliane." If it worked in broad daylight, it must have been a real treat after dark on a bigger screen. ()
