The past seen as history is recalled as the events of a single night: Szvetics Berta - currently Mrs. Cuzzle - happens to arrive in Budapest from London and her appearance calls together the one-time young resistance fighters, now men of high position and material wealth. The encounter and the night spent together makes them all disillusioned or skeptical about whether they have offered their lives for a right cause. The only person who stayed the same truly believing revolutionary he used to be in his youth was Kántor Feri, the martyr. His memory is preserved in a marble memorial table.
