The movie is a kinetic portrait of the dark life of children who have nothing, Mexico City ‘s street kids. Tort’s directorial debut employed real street children who bring a gritty authenticity to this highly cinematic adaptation of Jesus Gonzales Davila’s play. Orphaned 15 year old Rufino survives doing odd jobs – hauling slabs of meat and drugs across the city. When he steals drug money from the corrupt cop who runs the neighbourhood, he unleashes a maelstrom of violence. (Independent Cinema Office)
