A man, after leaving his family of a wife and two children, crashes his plane into a skyscraper in Milan. What could have driven him to this? On the pier in Rimini, a woman has dreams of children, but no longer has faith in love. A mother of two in Naples debates whether women’s liberation has destroyed the bond between them and men. We follow a Norwegian man on a road trip through an Italian landscape characterised by disillusionment and shattered dreams. He is retracing the trail from his childhood, on a quest for love and happiness. The director provides us with an intimate and perceptive portrait of Italians and their culture, of their food, football and coffee. His feeling for women is reminiscent of classic Fellini and contributes to this poetic road movie about hope, passion and what to do when life doesn’t take us where we want to go – but also about truly appreciating the Italian art of a great cup of freshly ground coffee.
