A scheming manicurist, played superbly by Nancy Carroll, plans to marry Phillips Holmes, the son of millionaire wheat farmer Hobart Bosworth, as her ticket to Easy Street. Bosworth and Holmes' brother, James Kirkwood, violently oppose the union, but the couple marry anyway. Carroll offers to divorce him if Bosworth will pay her $50,000. Dad agrees and Carroll leaves. Her conscience begins to eat at her, and she tries to wash away her guilt in alcohol. Meanwhile, Holmes lies seriously ill after a fall he suffered in a fight with his brother over Carroll. Upon hearing this, Carroll realizes that she loves him and returns to his side. (official distributor synopsis)
