Biography
Douglas Booth was born in London. He became a member of the National Youth Theatre and Junior Guildhall, of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, at age 13 before he was cast in Julian Fellowes' film "From Time to Time." Following this, Booth starred in "The Pillars of the Earth," produced by Ridley Scott.
Booth won universal critical acclaim for his portrayal of Boy George in the BBC's biopic "Worried About the Boy," and went on to star opposite Matt Smith and Imogen Poots in "Christopher and His Kind." He played the character of Pip in the BBC's adaptation of "Great Expectations," which aired over Christmas 2011 and also stared Gillian Anderson, Ray Winstone and David Suchet. 2012 saw Booth as the male lead in the film "LOL," starring opposite Demi Moore and Miley Cyrus.
Booth was later seen in "Noah," the film adaptation of the epic Biblical tale of Noah and the Ark, directed by Darren Aronofsky. He took on the role of Shem alongside a stellar cast including Emma Watson, Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly and Logan Lerman. He also starred in Carlo Carlei's "Romeo and Juliet," adapted from Shakespeare's play by Academy Award(R) winning writer Julian Fellowes. Booth plays Romeo opposite Hailee Steinfeld's Juliet.
His films include Lone Sherfig's "The Riot Club." Based on the 2010 play by Laura Wade, it follows two first year students at Oxford University who join The Riot Club, a fictional version of The Bullingdon Club, an exclusive Oxford society to which such prominent British figures as Prime Minister David Cameron, London Mayor Boris Johnson and Chancellor George Osborne belonged. The story is set over the course of one evening during the club's term dinner. When the President of the club considers leaving his post, the other boys jockey for the position, leading to tragic consequences. The ensemble cast includes Sam Clafin, Max Irons and Freddie Fox.
In November 2013, Booth made his professional stage debut as part of the line-up for the Old Vic's 24 Hour Plays Event. He joined Catherine Tate, Nathan Stewart and Tom Ellis, among others, to create and perform a string of plays in a single day at the Young Vic Theatre.
