William Fichtner has appeared in a wide range of films over the course of his career and continues to carve out a distinctive place in Hollywood. He was most recently seen opposite Steve Carell and Tina Fey in Date Night, for director Shawn Levy. Fichtner recently finished production on Tony Krantz's independent feature The Big Bang, co-starring alongside Antonio Banderas.
The actor was previously seen on the big screen in the comedies The Amateurs, co-starring Jeff Bridges, and Blades of Glory, with Will Ferrell. Fichtner also co-starred in the Academy Award-winning drama Crash, for writer-director Paul Haggis, a role for which he shared a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Ensemble Cast in a Feature Film. He starred opposite Adam Sandler in the comedic remake The Longest Yard and appeared alongside Guy Pearce in the independent film First Snow. Segueing between television and feature films, Fichtner was last seen on TV playing the role of FBI agent Alexander Mahone for three seasons on the hit drama series "Prison Break." He also starred in HBO's critically acclaimed "Empire Falls," with Paul Newman and Ed Harris. Other television credits include "The West Wing" and "Invasion."
In 2005, Fichtner had two films premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, Rodrigo Garcia's Nine Lives and Arie Posin's The Chumscrubber. Additional film credits include Ridley Scott's Black Hawk Down, Sam Weisman's What's The Worst That Could Happen, Wolfgang Peterson's The Perfect Storm, Nick Gomez's Drowning Mona, Kurt Wimmer's Equilibrium and Ultraviolet, Alain Berliner's Passion of Mind, Michael Bay's Armageddon, Michael Mann's Heat, Robert Zemeckis' Contact, Doug Liman's Go, Kathryn Bigelow's Strange Days, Steven Soderbergh's The Underneath, Jeb Stuart's Switchback, Agnieszka Holland's Julie Walking Home, Mark Steilen's The Settlement and Kevin Spacey's directorial debut, Albino Alligator.
As a member of the Circle Repertory Company, Fichtner won critical acclaim for his role in "The Fiery Furnace," directed by Norman Rene. He has also appeared on the stage in "Raft of the Medusa" at the Minetta Lane Theatre, "The Years" at the Manhattan Theatre Club, "Clothes for a Summer Hotel" at the Williamstown Theatre Festival and "Machinal" at The Public Theater.
